The European Sickle Cell Federation introduces the first ever European theme for World Sickle Cell Day. WSCD2022 Theme: “Sickle Cell Has No Colour……it’s in the blood” Sickle Cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that can affect anyone through genetic inheritance. Just like other genetic conditions, Sickle Cell disease is passed on from both parents carrying the genetic trait of the disease, regardless of colour, ethnicity or race, geography, or belief. According to the European Medicines Agency, SCD affected 2.6 in 10,000 people in the European Union in 2017. With rising migration and births in Europe, the prevalence of Sickle Cell Disease in Europe is increasing This year, the European Sickle Cell Federation would like to shed light on the misconceptions surrounding the racial structure of Sickle Cell prevalence in Europe and the world. With the support and partnership of the Sickle Cell Community Consortium, the European Sickle Cell Federation launches the Sickle Cell has no Colour campaign and WSCD2022 Theme through various social media communication channels, informational materials and other promotional initiatives.
