Universal Newborn Screening Program

Newborn screening is one of the most important public health initiatives. Newborn screening provides early diagnosis for children with sickle cell disease (SCD). Globally, SCD is also the most common diagnosis identified by newborn screening. Multiple countries however, do not have newborn screening programs.

ESCF aim to work with major stakeholders in all European countries to establish and promote the urgent need for universal new-born screening for Sickle cell disease and other anaemias, for early interventional programmes and better patient outcomes.
